“Sharp” and “Impressive” were among the many generous comments showered upon councillors at the 38th Students’ Council Investiture of Anglo Chinese Junior College. After weeks of planning, the day finally arrived where the would-be councillors prepared themselves outside the hall for the official investing of the incoming 38th Students’ Council and stepping down of the outgoing 37th Students’ Council after a dedicated year of hard work and commitment to the college. These young aspiring individuals quickly stole the limelight of the event upon entering the hall, walking in confidence with their military-sharp precision in footwork and well executed formal walk-in drills. Conversely, the last and final time wearing the college councillor’s blazer, the 37th Student Councillors descended the steps of the hall’s connecting Lecture Theatre in an angelic fashion with Cheah Hui Ying Esther and Lee Esther, President and Vice-President respectively, at their helm. Upon taking up their positions in the hall, the once perfectly straight column of beaming councillors parted in a wave like fashion, flacking the grand entering of the entering 38th Student’s Council. Lead by President Claire Lois Carter Rui En, the 38 new councillors walked, heads held high, filled with an undistinguishable mix of pride, excitement and gusto all at the same time. In recognition for their year of unyielding service to the college, the 37th Students Council took the stage one last time and stood before the college as the student body cheered them on and give them a well-deserved resounding applause. The 38th Students’ Council then ascended the stage and received their appointments. Solemnly pledging themselves to be steadfast in their convictions and to be courageous in standing up for what is right and true, the newly invested Student Councillors then received a blessing from the college chaplain for it is truly through God that they may begin this new endeavour with excellence in the pursuit of truth. Such was the momentous occasion of the 38th Students’ Council Investiture. To God be the glory, the best is yet to be.
